Rubicon Worth More?
Remember seeing a thread a couple of months ago asking about the trade in value of used Jeeps and most said that Rubicons had the best value. Forbes just did an anlaysis of all vehicles that retain their original cost and Wrangler was number 1. But looks like Rubicon doesn't do as well as the other models.
1. Jeep Wrangler
The original SUV traditionally commands among the highest resale values in the industry, particularly in relatively unadorned versions that off-road enthusiasts covet to customize with aftermarket add-ons. A model-year 2008 two-door Wrangler having clocked 46,500 miles in top condition is estimated to return a whopping 90 percent of its original retail price in trade-in value. The four-door Wrangler Unlimited version fares slightly better, holding onto 91 percent of its MSRP according to NADA Guides. By comparison the off-road ready Rubicon versions – which can be too rough for casual owners – retain 77 and 84 percent of their original sticker prices.

I'd have to speculate it's because folks that buy Rubi's would tend to off road them so more 'used' condition wise. Secondly I'd speculate it's because the dealers folks trade them into don't figure the Rubicon's options into the value (i.e. they low-ball). I still think the Rubi is worth more trade-in wise to a knowledgeable and reputable dealer.
A clean used Rubi and a clean used wrangler the Rubi will cost more same for same. I would bet like mentioned above the Rubi's are in worse shape. Either that or it really has a lot to do with where you live. Perhaps in some areas of the US big maybe a Rubi would be around the same cost but I have yet to see it. I am on my 10th jeep 4th JK and 5th Rubicon. One of the Rubi's I purchased in FL the others I have lived in CO but I searched all of US when buying.
