Run off the road @ 75MPH
Just thought I'd share my little 70MPH off road experience with everyone.
Basically I was on 95 south in NC heading back to Florida after visiting the family in Maryland and I'm cruising along at 75-80 in the left lane and this black Tahoe starts to merge onto the highway.
He must not have been paying attention at all because he merges into the right lane then just keeps on merging into ME in the left lane. The whole time I had been watching him because he was going pretty damn fast on that on ramp and I thought he was going to stop once he got in the right lane, then I notice he just keeps coming.
I honked the horn once and hit the brakes but he was merging over too fast (or not paying attention) so there I go off into the median. Unlucky for me there was no left shoulder on this part of the highway so I'm going about 65-70 MPH off road trying not to loose control and slow down.
I'm pretty sure nothing was damaged. The guy in the Tahoe took off immediatly after seeing me fly off the road. After I had come to a stop and made sure my Jeep was still in one piece I punched it and tried to catch up to him going about 80MPH but he must have been going faster than that because I never did catch up and I wasn't about to get pulled over trying to catch this A Hole.
In any case I learned a valuable lesson, if you see a black Tahoe steer clear, because its not going to steer clear from you.

I'm with you on that one. Especially after hearing stories about our board members here getting run into. Apparently Jeeps are less visible than motorcycles :/
Do you think the ESP and other safety features helped maintain control?
I know things like that happen too fast to catch the details but did you notice the lights come on as it activated?
Glad to hear everything is ok though.

It all really did happen pretty fast, but I do not remember ESP coming on or doing anything. Of course it may have been helping with traction control but it was so bumpy I couldn't feel a change in the pedals or anything, and naturally my eyes were pointed straight ahead so I didn't notice the ESP light.
I'm glad you're okay. I've learned from other people's misfortune that it's usually worse to run off the road to avoid an accident. Also, not only can the blame be placed where it belongs, but you don't have to worry about an at-fault collision on your insurance record.
The first thing that came to my mind was god I hope my tiny D30 front axle is ok.
I try to remember to drive with my headlights on all the time.. When I was a Defensive Driving Instructor, I would tell my students to drive with your headlights on.. It has been proven to improve your visibility to other drivers by 70%.. That is why so many cars have daytime driving lights...
But seriously I'm a firm believer that it does help.

Hopefully nothing broke.
