Safe length for trailer?
I am actively shopping for a small toy hauler travel trailer with living quarters. I know the rated weight for my JKU sport with max tow package is 3500 pounds. I also feel that I can push that boundary a little based on what I read on here as well as my towing experience with my mercury mountaineer. So today an RV salesman was talking about the maximum length of trailer I could tow, regardless of weight. He told me he thought it was 18ft. Anybody know if this is true or where I can find some guidance on this? I have found a trailer only weighing around 2800 but it is about 20ft long.

I've never heard of a maximum trailer length rating. Just gross weight and tongue weight. The only think I can think of what hes trying to get at is that maybe because its longer and where the trailer axle is located it has a heavier tongue weight than what you're allowed. Which I think is only 500lbs if I remember right?

Tongue weight on my 09 JKU is 350. I pull a 19' trailer that actually measures 20' by my tape. With a good weight distribution hitch, I'm having no problems with my 3,000 lbs plus trailer.

I don't know what state you are on, but some states have a length limit on the total including the vehicle as part of the license. I can't see a JKU and 20 ft trailer hitting the max for a standard license but maybe.
