Default Sahara tires

New to forum and learning alot. My wife has a 08 4 door Sahara. I want to put a little bigger tires on the stock wheels. What size can I get by without lifting. Later on when she stops driving it everyday I will put a small (2") lift on it. I want something in an all terrain style tire. Any pics or help is appreciated.

I went with 285 70 17's on mine without lifting, but after some off roading I decided to do a 2.5" lift.

I went with BFG All Terrain A/T 295/75R16s with the stock suspension. They rubbed on that plastic front air dam / skid plate thing in reverse when turning. I took it off. They rubbed on the back fenders when trailing and mild flexing. I put on the TeraFlex 1.5" Performance Leveling Kit. Still rubbed on the trails. I added the Bushwacker fender flares - no rubbing now, but I can stuff the back wheels up in there pretty good on a full flex. I really don't think I'd go bigger with the current set up.

I know that in sport cars you shouldn't go to wide on a tire, usually 275 is the max for a 9 inch wheel, because you loose area on the contact path negating the effects of the wider tire but I don't know if this works the same way on offroad tires that you will be deflating.

I would presume bead separation is one of the problems.
