When I drove my Sahara off the lot, it came with bigger tires and gears than the x model, but I guess that makes it a mall crawler in comparison to an X model, jeez...
|
I've always been a Jeep lover and only recently bought my first jeep. I bought it used and to be honest I didnt care at all what type it was...rubi, sport, x whatever in the end it really doesnt matter because its the soul you put into the jeep. Its how you make it come alive. I think for most of use whatever model we have its all just a base for our beast to come alive. I love my Sahara

Nope not a mall crawler. More like my dogs personal taxi. He's always got me going to the trails, dog parks or pet store!!! Sadly he also put the first scratch on the door. Although that only encouraged me to one up him on a densly wooded trail!

Well then I love my Mall Crawler! |
Whoa. Started this thread before going to sleep and woke up to a hornet's nest! LOL
Honestly, nothing against Saharas. I'm actually targeting a JKU Sahara with matching fenders and hard top for my wife for whenever her Commander breaks down (insert plans for sabotage here). She'll probably like the luxury of a Sahara over a broke ass college kid Sport anyway. But a Rubi would be too 'lux. Don't want anyone to think we're looking down on anyone or anything  |

The majority of Jeep owners don't take theirs off road so I just most as mall crawlers, not just Saharas. But I do hate the Cole matching.. Just not my style but whatever floats your boat! As long as it gets used I appreciate your ride!

I drive a Sahara, stock, and wheel on light trails. Bottom line proud as hell to drive a Jeep, I love them all regardless of model, trim, color....

What's up with that? So all of a sudden we are hating Saharas. I'm tired of hearing that the only good wranglers are Rubicons...blah..blah...blah. Bottomline they are all wranglers...just some different bells and whistles. We all buy what we like, or can afford. Then we make it our own. That is the beauty of a Jeep. They are an extension of our personality, like all of us they are similar but unique and different. Not to mention I've seen plenty of Saharas and X/sport that would go anywhere any Rubicon could and more, again, depending on how it is built and the driver of course. Well said though |
Just thought I'd share my Mall Crawler

Same BS I deal with will all the retards that say race cars cannot look good either. People seem to think it is always Form vs Function and fail to realize that some people desire both. What is wrong with having a properly painted race car whose bumpers are not held on with zip ties or having a nicely painted jeep to romp through mud?
Basically it comes down to the fact that those who cannot have, simply hate on those who can. |
i think he got his daily dose of crow.. He can call it what ever he likes, he can build walls but we can tear them down :D Jeep in itself is a culture and a passion. Most people when they buy a product that's faulty, they don't get another. Not us.. We go get another and another and another.. Maybe not the smartest financially sound idea, but what other culture will let you go rock crawling, destroy your rig and a guy you've never met in your life: Helps you by towing your jeep home 200+ miles just to get you home.. At the race track, a car up on a lift is a sign of defeat. A jeep broken, an owner stranded because his daily driver was wheeled so hard that weekend, and everyone who walked past offered their help. you only find that in our culture bud, doesn't matter if you drive a rubi, sahara or a X. I think most of us no matter the level of mods know more about this culture than you could ever imagine, because we eat breath and live to do what we do ;)

Lighten up everyone! :)
Aww come on guys and gals. Gotta lighten up a little. I know for a fact that everyone on these forums are Jeep enthusiasts and that we all love our Jeeps. You’re reading this posts and others for a reason – we all have the same passion, right? But I know for a fact that Saharas were designed specifically to appeal to the non-niche crowd – to basically bring in the people who originally thought the Jeep was too “rough” for use as an everyday vehicle. In truth, the JKU was designed for the exact same reason too.
As a prime example, my wife is somewhat of a girly girl who happens to love Jeeps. She loved my Liberty, drives a Commander and is absolutely thrilled with my modded Sport. (we both hated the Patriot, but who doesn’t?) But she would not drive a Sport or Rubi. For someone like her, a color matched JKU Sahara is THE PERFECT vehicle for her. She probably would never own a Wrangler any other way. I’m 100% sure that once I “accidentally” wrap her Commander around a tree on a solo grocery run someday, a red JKU Sahara is her replacement. Now I know and respect the ones who buy a Sahara to wheel with and treat it as any other Jeep. That’s just awesome . A Jeep IS a Jeep – they are all capable. But with “designed for the mass market” vehicles like the Sahara, it will inadvertently draw in non-traditional customers as well. It has happened to Porsche with the introduction of the 944’s and Boxter, or even the Cayenne. I have a slight issue with those people – they truly don’t get it. No waves, snotty, gives you dirty looks because you modded your Jeeps. It’s like folks who go to a Kid Rock concert wearing suits and evening dresses. No offense  |

So let me get this straight; Some guy on his way home from his bank job isn't supposed to like Kid Rock?
When I was a kid (13 or so), I used to get pissed off at the rich adults with expensive skis, a matching ski outfit, complete with color matched Hanson boots. I felt that they didn't have any right to have more expensive gear than I did because they couldn't ski as well - I was a competitive racer who had to mow lawns all summer to pay for the next season's gear. I don't feel that way any more. Why? To put it bluntly, I grew up. Who am I to judge how other people spend their money? Some lady wants to by Lange World Cups because she likes the 'crazy blue' color? Who cares. Maybe they'll be the boots that help her get hooked on speed and she'll push herself to be a better skier, or maybe they'll collect dust. Either way who cares? I got my Sahara because I drive 25,000 freeway miles a year and much fewer off road. It came with leather seats (which I love becuase they feel great and the dog hair doesn't stick to it), the 4x4 is unstopable on the way to the ski hill, the top comes off, and it tows my jet boat. But further more, I'm sick of defending the purchase. Most of the Jeep community is fun and a pleasure to be a part of. I wave at every wrangler I see (even if most don't wave back unless I have my doors off). Sometimes, however, this elitist crap really drains the fun out of it. |
hrmm only "luxary" that came with my sahara was infinity sound system and keyless entry. i got mine because i wanted the upgrade sound, tow package, limited slip. the price was right. and now it just confuses people with black bedlined fenders and a "sahara" sticker:clap:
they let me take it for a weekend test drive.. I trashed it! they didnt realise to get to my garage involved a bit of muddin when its wet!... so i was mudding with my Sahara before it was even mine. |

I am incredulous that I have to justify the blatant sarcasm in my comment.... sarcasm is the lowest form of wit ....and I used it intentionally so that even someone from Tex-ass would get it.... Remember my friend...better a witty fool than a foolish wit...no offense as you guys like to say.... This is a stupid thread! I have a sahara an use my "mall accessories" with the sahara for good use. I love them! I installed a backup camera for the nav system so I can see when I am in a tight spot backing up over rocks. It is because my spare 35 soon 37 is too big to see around. Yea I have the painted CHOPPED fenders to give more room to flex! I like my upgraded sound system. I hate autos ( luxury IMO) so bought a manual cause that's driving a jeep to me. I have probably added more mods in lights, suspension, winches , skid plates , axle upgrades than 90 percent on this forum.
So to make this title of this thread is just ignorant..... Ohhh better not buy a 2012 rubicon !!! Or ya gonna get hands free radio controls to listen to Justin beiber on the way to the mall! Lol And no my sahara doesn't even have that. Lol |

I have been noticing alot more men and women 70+ driving JKU Saharas lately. This 75 year old man the other day had at least a 4" lift and 35's. I think Jeep needs to look into a geriatric version JKU and leave the Sahara to the soccer moms. The geriatric version could sport a large handicap emblem on the hood so they dont need to have the handicap pass hanging on the rear view. No offense old people but your youth was gone centuries ago. Stick to a cadillac or buick. :yup:

In stock form, yeah... I don't really care for the mild mannered look of the Sahara's and their painted fenders and minivan tires, but that's just my opinion. I just like the look of more aggressive looking Jeeps, but that doesn't mean the others are any less of a Jeep. For whoever said that a Jeep should be manual....there's nothing wrong with an auto. In fact there was an article in JP magazine were they went on a trail run with something like 50 JK's and only 2 were actual manual transmisson. Apparently the auto's do well on the rocks. Out of those 50 plus Jeeps, a good number of them were modded out Sahara's too. The Sahara's can definitely rock it!
