I would probably keep the jeep if I was in your situation just because you'd never get the money back for the modifications. When I was in college I had a 30 mile commute to school and I hated having to pay for gas for my V8 Camaro that only took premium. I was going to sell it but since I would be loosing so much money on all the modifications on it I ended up keeping it and using a 500$ Saturn for a DD I was glad I kept the Camaro. There's cheap reliable gas saving vehicles out there for under $1000 you just have to look. One of my friends just sold a Toyota pickup (4cyl 2WD stick) with 120,000 miles on it for $500 and it ran fine and those Toyota trucks get good mileage and last forever.
