Default Shifting

I drive a 6 speed and I usually shift early to keep the rpms down to save gas. Will driving in higher gears around town cause any damage?

I heard the JK engine is most efficient at around 2100 rpm. So I usually cruise around 2100

you could always plan the route so that you drive down hill the whole way......just go the opposite way your parents went to school....you know ....up hill all the way....while they walked bare foot in the snow!!!

Driving in the higher gears is OK as long as you are not causing the engine to lug.
That means not demanding power to accelerate, or climb a hill. You will have to shift up and down a lot.

Personally, I think it's better to stay in a gear that allows the engine to turn up a little.
Engine health will more than offset any small fuel savings of being in the higher gears all the time.

I used to shift around 3k and now shift around 2k. Will also cruise around 40-50 in 6th but will need to downshift if I need to accelerate. For cruising I try to pick the highest gear and the jeep seems to do ok

I usually shift between 1500-1700 and get great mpg's. For 25mph I will have it in either 4th or 5th, never do 6th, 35mph I'm usually in 5th or 6th. It all depends on the road though.
