Default Side Step rails on Rubicon

Does anyone know if the rock rails can easily be removed from the 2012 rubicon and be directly replaced(bolt-on) with the mopar side step rails like on the sahara?
I need side steps on the jeep without a doubt, wifey would need a ladder to get in! I don't really like the looks of the optional aftermarket rails neither.

Yep, direct replacements. You can likely find them for cheap on here as well.

The Jeep Rubicon costs more primarily because there are changes in it that improve its performance off-road. This is unlike most vehicles, where the "top-of-the-line" model is designed to go faster or be more luxurious. The Sahara side steps are not compatible with off-road performance. If I was in the situation where I had to provide for someone shorter to get into my Jeep Rubi (I own an X, BTW), I'd opt for one of the after-market rock rails that double as sidesteps. If I didn't like the appearance for some reason, I'd find comfort in the fact that at least I was doing something consistent with the intended purpose of the vehicle. But, hey, it is your vehicle--do as you will. That's JMHO.

Have you looked into ACE rails? They will bolt in with the existing Rubi rails and act as a step too.

I agree on sacrificing rocker protection is a bad idea unless you aren't doing wheeling where you will need them. In that case you should just buy a sport with steps and save yourself alot of money.

X3 on the ACE. I just put them on my 12 Rubi and they work great with the stock rubi rails. Kids use them as steps.

You do realize that the Sahara steps are not rails.....right? Just a plastic step. If you plan on wheelin' your jeep then just have a shop weld a step on what you have....pretty easy. That way you still have protection and a happy wife.....without so much added expense.

I have to vote again for the ace rails. My wife and kids appreciate the step and I love the tank like protection they offer along with the Rubi rails.
