I'm 99% sure it's a 35. Go to jeep.com and build one and it should list it as a standard feature.

I stand corrected.

Jeep.com lists the NG D44 as a standard feature on the base model X.

i have made a jeep like mine on their web-site and read that too but the only reason im confused is because i recall in the 07 brochure it says dana 35s... did they switch between 07 and 08? would it say anywhere on the diff?

sorry, im just raising more questions... but im curious, and need to know.

just look at it, if the cover has an oval shape is a 35... if it has a semi hexigonal look then its a dana 44

Originally some JKs came with rear D35s. Those were the very early models. After a certain date (that I'm not sure of) they ALL came with rear D44s. This was on 07s only. All 08s have D44s and MOST 07s do as well.

The answer that yellowjeeper85 gave will help you find out which you have.

Yeah, in fact HappyCurmudgeon's Sahara is the only confirmed D35 rear axle I have seen, and I looked at a LOT of JK's when buying mine, the D35 was about the only thing I was dead set against, no matter how good the deal or rest of the Jeep was.
