Slightly different oil question
Hi All,
this question pertains to the use of 0w-40 or 5w-40. I’m in love with Rotella t6 and have found some really promising posts with uoa’s in the 3.6.
ive also come across a lot of negative opinions, but these are always in the lines of “my tech said” or “”I heard this from...”. Does anyone have any first hand experience with a heavier weight oil in their 3.6?

IMO.. Rotella t6 is a diesel oil.. I did not check its certification for gasoline engines and does it meet Jeep API certification? Now to the question.. A very good ASE certified factory trained JEEP technician expressed concern using heavier weight oils could slow or effect the CAM timing/phase on the 3.6. This was direct to my question of going to 5w30 synthetic years ago.

My 2010 has used synthetic 5w-30 with a quart of Lucas for years, but that's not what you asked. All of my friends have the 3.6 and now and again they'll ask me to change their oil, so I give them the same treatment I use- synthetic 5w-30 plus Lucas. We bought my girlfriend's 2016 with 10k miles, she's now got 50k miles on my mix and not a single issue. Going off of the UOA I posted from Blackstone and Mr. T's analysis, the oil mixture I'm running is roughly 5w-40. I've got 220k miles on this configuration in my 2010 and with any luck we'll see the same results on the 16.
Best of luck Jim.

Rotella 5-40 is a great oil, ran in my FJR1300 as do many other owners, my KingQuad and then my Canam 800.
Ran in 3 different jeeps, 2 JK's, 1 LJ . 2 different built EB's m Lawn mower and pressure washer.
Plus other motors never a issue.
Only thing I can't use it in is my Audi TDI motor.
