Default Smaller Toys

Ok I've seen a lot of folks on the forum that have the trail axes, shovels, and other handy trail accessories on their JK's. Question is -- where can they be purchased? Are folks just buying any small axe/shovel and mounting them, or is there a site that offers things just for off-road vehicles? Let me know, thanks!

Hi-Lift has a system called Handle-All that is purpose built.

Other than that, short handle shovels and Axes can be found at most hardware stores.

what about the cargo/gear-bags that people are mounting to their tail-gate? There's a lot of great set-ups and I'm looking for the most efficient and effective ideas. Thanks!

Smittybilt G.E.A.R. tailgate cover is around $45 from Quadratec or 4WheelParts
They also make seat back covers that do similar things that are a little more pricey.

I have the hi-lift handle all. All of it will fit in your storage cubby. It's good stuff. Tried all of the extensions, and they all work well. Bonus is if you have an actual hi-lift, you can use that handle instead.

Default Recovery / First-Aid Gear

I just ordered the Smittybilt G.E.A.R. tailgate setup, but I'm still waiting on it to arrive. It looks pretty versatile and customizable. I was in the Army, so I like the MOLLE set-up.

As far as recovery gear, again, because I was in the Army, I was looking for an E-tool ("entrenching tool" AKA "shovel") with a MOLLE sheath. It's very compact, and has a serrated edge for chopping, etc. I did some research, and found a package on Amazon that includes the e-tool, sheath, and axe / saw combo. (The saw actually fits inside the axe handle! Pretty effin' sweet!) Cost: $100.

I also bought the red MOLLE first-aid pouch by Voodoo for $18.95. Voodoo sells the "complete" kits as well for $40-$45, but I didn't like all the extra crap it comes with that I'll never use, so I plan on just stocking my own kit.

As far as winching accessories, David at Northridge 4x4 is 'da man! I picked up his ARB Recovery Essentials Package for $230 (free shipping!)

Lastly, I have two black H3R MAXOUT 2.5 lb. fire extinguishers mounted to the rear rollbars with Smittybilt fire extinguisher holders. The velcro keeps them very secure, but they still wobble side-to-side a little bit on bumpy roads.

And remember - recovery gear is NOT something you wanna go cheap on. Buy based on quality, even if it's a little more expensive. Trust me, when your ass is in a sling, you'll want a quality product you can count on to get the job done!

Hope this helps. Good luck!
