Default Smittybilt Neoprene Seat Covers - BEWARE!

Hey all,

I picked up 3 sets of Neoprene seat covers a little over a year ago. 1 set for me and 2 sets for friends. Well, a little over a year into owning them the seam on the driver side seat cushion gave out. I now have a seat cover with an ugly tear/hole. The rest of them seem to he holding up ok...but the side that gets the most use is ....DONE. I contacted Smittybilt and because I have had them over a year I am SOL. I asked if I could just purchase the drivers side....NOPE....I have to buy the set. I asked if they had any mistakes....Ie) the drivers back came out bad but they have the drivers cushion...NOPE.

I guess I have to now look for another set of seat covers. I really liked them when I first got them and have taken care of them...they havent been abused. Just frustrating that they only last a year. I guess that's why the only warranty them for a year. I know things dont last forever but they should have lasted longer than that!

I felt warm and toasty!

If you want to save some money for awhile just take the cover off and sew the seam back together. This type of tear is common in lifted jeeps and since smittybuilt makes some of the cheapest covers on the market this is not a surprise. I have these seat covers too and I can see where the seams are starting to stretch. It is from getting in and out of the jeep because you slide and it stretches. This was the original reason I got seat covers because my factory seats that came with the sahara ripped on the drivers side where I get in and out of the jeep. My jeep is lifted 3 inches. I didn't look to see whether yours is or not. But if it is, that's why. I bought the cheapie ones because that is all that I could afford at the time. I am sure higher quality covers would last a lot longer.

I'm pretty sure smitty and coverking are one and the same.

My ck's didn't last 2 years and did the same thing.

When i first got them I noticed that spot was a little weak...I guess I should have complained when I got them but they probably wouldnt have done anything then because it wasnt ripped.

Surfers keep their wetsuits out of the sun when not in use because the sun breaks down the fibers in the neoprene.

This is also why surfers use a wetsuit for a about 2 seasons (2 years) before needing another suit.

Its really just the neoprene. I find it hard to believe that these are water resistant too because neoprene is made to absorb water not repel it.

Mine look like that after 2 years of use. I was going to just take it off and sew it.
