Snow Chains
Well I have never used snow chains before and I am torn on which ones to buy. I think I have narrowed it down to two. Scc QG2837, and RUD grip 4x4 truck tire chain...Does anyone have any experience with these brands or types of chains? Or can you recommend some. I don't plan on using the chains for an extended period of time but I would like to have them just in case.
I have a set of the rud grip. They are very nice. With the new type of chains you can put them on the tire without moving the truck (yes you still tighten them after a few feet) so theoretically you can put them on if you are stuck. I think that might be difficult though, depending on the situation. Either way the Rudd installs easily. I could not see a good pic of the other one you mentioned but if it is the older type I would not want it. I also believe the longitudinal chain on the rud helps and may make it a smoother ride - although I have not actually tried the other type.
If I were to buy chains again it would be rud. If not that brand, then another one which has the same type of tightening/installation procedure.

I believe rud is European ?? The vbar chains are for longer wear heavy duty applications. Don't know if that is a consideration for you. Unless that is the case I would really suggest the Rud grip model or the SCC version of it - the heavy duty chains aren't as friendly.
I can't stress how nicely the rud installs - without needing to move the vehicle on top of the chains. If you like scc look at their 'white star alloy' version - seems to be the same thing.
If it means anything - my best time to have all four chains on my pickup is seven minutes. Don't know if this is good or bad but I'm satisfied.
Good luck.
