Default Soft Top hardware question

Hi all,

Bought my Jeep stock with a hardtop. Getting ready to buy a soft top from a local person and want to make sure I get all the pieces I need.

Can anyone list everything I need so I can make sure I have all the parts when I purchase?

I would really appreciate it.

Im thinking its -
Soft Top - Duh....
2 rear side windows
1 rear widow
Folding Frame Work
Channels/Brackets = How Many?
Anything else stock that comes with soft top JK's?

Soft Top - Duh.... (item 1)
2 rear side windows (item 18, (qty 2))
1 rear widow (item 22)
Folding Frame Work (items 2 through 9, 17)

Given the schematic above for the four door I have tagged the numbers to the items here.

I just bought a new Jeep with dual tops after having one with a soft top so I know what comes with the soft top.

* There is a bracket that connects to the roll bar on each side that the folding frame work attaches to. (Item 20 (2), attaches with (qty 4) item 19 (2 per side) and uses (qty 4) item 21 to attach the roof bows (item 7))
* There is the rear window bar (the rear window slides into a groove on this to hold the window down to the tailgate). (item 10)
* There is a small bracket on each side of the tailgate that holds the rear window bar to the body. (items 23 & 32)
* There are the door frames (For a 2 door there is one right angle piece for each side. This piece pivots at the corner so you can fold it in half. For the 4 door there is a similar piece for the second row (item 31 (qty 2)) plus a flat piece that runs from the top of the windshield to the top of the B-Pillar. (item 15 (qty 2)))
* There are the door frame bolts. These are longish bolts with large plastic knobs on them so you can loosen and tighten them by hand. The 2 door has four of these, two each side. The 4 door has six, four long bolts (item 14 (qty 4)) and two shorter bolts (item 30 (qty 2).

Going through the list I forgot four straps. There are two non-stretch straps with velcro on them that are used to secure the roof bows when in sunrider mode and to attach the top of the frame work to the body side. The other two straps are elastic with one snap on each of them that is supposed to be useful for rolling up the rear window. The snaps attach to the rear most cross bow (item 6). The straps appear to be items 16 and 28. In the picture (they are in the glove box) they look like the same but there is definitely two different kinds of straps, 2 of each. The velcro straps are necessary, the elastic straps did not strike me as very useful.

I have a neighbor who tried twice to buy a soft top for his 2006 long body Jeep and both times the kit from the dealer did not include the brackets that attach to the roll bar. The dealer could not figure out a way to order just that part. That part is critical.

Another thing to watch out for when you are installing this is the leading edge of the side windows have a stiff right angle piece. When properly installed, the forward most leg of this right angle piece will fit in a slot that is on the leading edge of the vertical portion of the door frame. That leading edge has a stitch down the length of it. You should not be able to see the stitch when the window is properly installed into the slot. If that isn't clear, ask the person selling the top to clarify it for you.

i am trying to remember from last year but...

4 brackets and 8 screws that connect the bows to the roll bars.
the frame (mine was all put together when i bought it, yours probably will be too since it is coming from someone)
the bar that goes across the back door that your back window slides into
the three windows
door surrounds

the header if it isn't also attached (mine was).

i think that is it

I bought a four door last Thursday with the dual top option. Sunday I finally finished my hard top lift so I could take the soft top out. They basically had me removing everything that they had attached at the factory for shipping so all of that stuff was fresh in my mind and I remember all of the stuff my 2 door had for the soft top that can't be installed with the hard top on. I also read the instructions for switching between the two.

The original poster should look in the owner's manual (which is downloadable as a PDF if you don't have one) in the dual top option section for complete instructions on getting it all assembled correctly. You may want to review this ahead of time so you have an idea how all the parts fit and may be able to catch something that is missing or not quite right.

Good luck!

Here is a link to install a top. It also has the parts breakdown. If you buy someone's softop off their jeep or dual top group remember a lot of these parts are already put together.

Thanks all for the help.

I was able to pick it up on the same day this thread was posted and via the JK-Forum app used this to guide me through everything.

It was all there, brand spanking new for $400 when they advertised much more.

I tested the waters on a few CG ads that wanted upwards of $1000, and 4 of them came back saying they would go this low. Got 2 back that told me to go stick it.

Anyone in the Springs area wants to know the other ones, send me a PM and I will hook you up with those sellers. 2 are local and one is South.

Just go's to show how motivated some are.
