Default Sound Proofing 2012

Test drove a 2012 JKU Sahara yesterday. It was very quiet compared to the 2011 Sport that I tested previously. I seem to recall that the sound proofing on the 2012s has been improved, but that the sport has much less than the Sahara and the Rubicon. Did a search and could not find any reference to this. Can anyone comment on the sound proofing differences between the 2012 JKU models. Thanks.

It's a Jeep....kinda irrelevant when the top and doors are off most of the time!

I agree! Lol When I first got my Jeep, hubby asked how it was. I said well compared to the Journey (previous vehicle) it's loud but it's a Jeep. I didn't buy it for it to have a quiet ride. Lol

Sounds like a Grand Cherokee or a Liberty would be more suitable for ya. Wranglers are much more uncivilized.

Was it possibly a soft top vs hard top? If noise is a concern get the hard top... I have preference for the soft tops myself as my first jeep was a CJ5 and I love that feel.

Sorry don't know about sound proofing between models...

As for everybody giving you a hard time shame on them that's what this forum is for... Questions!

Well, I will answer your question such that I can and not ridicule you for asking if there is an actual reason for your perceived difference in test drives. After all, I would prefer a quieter ride to one filled with clunks and rattles. My '12 has expandable foam insulation between the outer skin and inner skin along the bottom ot the door line. When I was drilling the holes for my brawler rockers, I notices that something was coming out that wasn't metal. Looking in the rear fender cavity shows more of the same. Can't say if this was in the '11 or not, but it's a good low cost, light-weight way that anyone could sound insulate any Jeep. The only draw back would be potential moisture retention, but I don't think it's and area prone to collect water in the first place.

Default one dealer told me , its the lack of soundproofing in newer models (2011)

that allows you to hear the ticking noise in valve train , vs. older ones had better insulation . no idea if this has anything to do with why the new one might have more ! i prefer to drive a quiet jeep in fact i hate it when i hear a squeek i go search it down and stop it . little annoying noises bother me ! i believe a jeep should be quiet while taking you through the worst things imaginable to a vehicle! then you have somthing worth keeping ! to those who like theres loud and full of clunks ? i say must have a house full of crap too ! ( dont go to dinner at thier house, prob has cat hair from the animals in the kitchen !

Can't remember....do the pre 2012's have engine covers?
The Sahara's and Rubi's also have insulation under the hood, and sound proofing was improved recently.
