Default Spare tire questions.

I really like the look of the tire on the back of my JK but I have been told it is best to keep a cover on them. Do you cover yours? Why or why not?

Also, do you include your spare in your tire rotations and in what pattern?

I carrier a spare and do not cover it. That's your preference. It doesn't do anything to have your tire exposed. As for rotating, I use to rotate all five but one of my tires is so out of round that use it for a spare only. If you search on tire rotation you should be able to see the suggested rotation pattern for 5 and 4 tire rotation for 4x4s.

My spare is uncovered. I rotate it in every 6,000 miles. The tires have been on the JK since new, 72,000 miles ago.
The sun doesn't seem to have negatively affected the tires, although sunlight and ozone are known to be harmful to the rubber.

It's okay to leave newer tires exposed for the most part. Covers are more for aesthetics these days. Older rubber compounds that didn't include goo to fend off UV and ozone would start to crack and break down if they were left exposed for a few years, but not really anymore.

I rotate in my spare using the standard 5-tire rotation designed for 4x4's. I rotate every 7k.

On that 5-wheel rotation, does that work for directional tires, too?

Used to have a dealership cover on the spare until I stripped it off and dropped it off one night on the dealer's doorstep. Like it better without

I cover mine, but it's to advertise my business

I use to have a cover but no longer use it. When I removed the cover it was full of leaves and road dirt. The tire was more dirty being covered then uncovered so I no longer use it was a waste of money. I believe the tire cover will ruin the tire and or wheel in time.

Don't you know that you are suppose to pull it off and wash and armorall the tire and than put the cover back on every time you wash your jeep

No, 5-tire rotation for 4wd does not work for directional tires.
