Mine was on an FJ on the side of the cargo area and tailgate. Not necessarly hard to install, just a little time consuming removing panels. The side rack was solid and bolted to the body. The tailgate rack was solid however was bolted to the plastic liner which limited weight. I'm not sure how the JK tailgate mounts but it appears it will be sturdy and hold whatever you'd need (within reason).
