It's personal preference. Both do fine with everything.

Automatic will make things 10x easier.. you don't have a clutch, brakes, and gas feathering to worry about when climbing right..

It also depends on what gears you're running... I've got a 6 speed, 4.10's and in 4Lo, the thing damn near climbs on it's own.

I appreciate that auto are probably much easier to crawl, but any other time I'm driving I LOVE having a standard.

... besides, it seriously limits how often the GF mod can interfere

I have an auto and wheeling is FANTASTIC! but.... The standard tranny is much more fun to drive as a daily driver!

I would never think of running an auto. Even with 3.21 gears wheeling aint so bad.

I have had both auto and manual, and I prefer the auto in my 2011. I have no faith in the JK manual, as I think they have to many issues, which in the past, was the reason for buying a manual, as you felt it was more reliable, especially in the back country. However, I do like driving and shifting, but until Jeep learns how to build a reliable and beefy manual, I will stay with my auto.

It will be fine as long as your tires aren't too big for your gears. You will get beat around going too fast. My buddy has 32s and 3.21s and did fine in 4 low. Life was just easier and gentler with the rubi t case and 4.10s.

The electronic throttle is amazing with the JK & 6spd for crawling. Just gradually push on the brakes and the Jeep will crawl at a good low speed. Basically, just push up or down on the brake pedal on how fast you want to crawl over the obstacle and you won't need to depress your clutch. If you do stall you can start your Jeep up with the turn of the key and no clutch in 4LO . However, I found you have to be at damn near stop before the Jeep will stall. Also, if you get the superchips flashpaq upload the crawl tune it is amazing for crawling.

Love the 6spd as I test drove both the Auto and 6spd with the same 3:73 gearing the Auto was an absolute Dog vs the 6spd.

I had a manual in my old tj, but went with an auto in my jk, just because I'm getting old and lazy and it is "easier" to crawl with an auto... but both do fine.......
Make sure you add a tranny cooler if you go with the auto and do a lot of crawling, just a little insurance...
