Still learning...
So, I'm relatively new to the Wrangler scene. I just have a couple questions that I've haven't found the answer to by doing a search...
- What are the Dana axles that I keep reading about?
- I have an 07 Unlimited X so, which one would I have?
- Is there someplace where I can punch in my VIN and find out everything I want to know about my Jeep (i.e., equipment, etc.) I bought my Jeep used.
I think that's it for now. Thanks for info. Sorry for the newb questions.

- You most likely have a Dana 30 front axle and a Dana 44 rear axle.
- You can contact your dealer and ask for a build sheet. They can enter your VIN and print it out. It has all the specs and info for your vehicle.
hello there, happy to help clear that up for you. there is somewhere you can punch in your vin... or at least use you vin to find all that out, however, i don't have the link... sorry, but as for the other stuff, i can help.
Dana axles are basically the name brand of the axle that chrysler uses, and some other car companies have used/do use, but chrysler/Jeep uses them. Ford trucks often have a ford 8.8 ford 9" or some other axle... the 9" being larger than 8.8
With dana Axles in their stock form, its almost always better to have the larger number, such as a Dana 44 over the Dana 35. Though i've heard some compelling arguements where the 30 is better than the 35... anyway, not to confuse you, but the rule of thumb is, with a dana axle the larger number the better. Being that you have an X model, your front axle is a Dana 30 and since you have an unlimited, your rear axle is a Dana 44. I beleive that holds true on all the JKs that only the Rubicons get a front 44 and all unlimiteds get the Rear 44 however i know it to be true for the 07, as mine is an 07 and when i baught mine it was in 06, so all my Homework for Jeep shopping was done on the 07 models.
Again, not to confuse you, your front is a Dana 30 and your Rear is a Dana 44
As for Gear ratio, being that its an X, you should have the 3:21 gear ratio if you have a manual transmission, unless you have the tow package, then you have the 4:10 gears... lastly, if you have an automatic and a tow package you still have the 4:10 gears, but if you have an automatic and no tow package, well then i'm not sure whether you have the 3:21 or the 4:10... i only buy stick shifts so i never did the Homework on the Automatic gear ratios
I know you didn't ask about gear ratios, but its a common question here on the site, and goes pretty hand in hand with the Axle size info. I hope that helps and keep searching the site for the vin number info, i know its on here somewhere. good luck

I have cut and pasted mine so you have an idea of what to expect. As was previously mentioned - if you purchased from a Jeep dealership they can get you the same thing. If you purchased from a non-Jeep dealer/private party you may be forced to email and wait! (I have edited out my personal information)
Enjoy your Jeep!
