Stock Rubicon vs Z71
 

One of the guys in my platoon was saying his 2001 Chevy silverado Z71 stock was more capable offroad than my stock 2012 2 door rubicon 6sp. We're stationed in Louisiana so most of the off roading here is mud. I've never done much mudding before since I'm from Washington state. I usually go mudding with a guy in a lifted TJ sport and I could go everywhere he could and I went with a guy with a TRD FJ and my jeep performed better than it, but would his truck having a V8 allow it to out perform my jeep in the mud? His truck is stock except for a 2" leveling kit and 265/75 R17 duratracs and my jeep is stock except for an exhaust

Jeep will win as its lighter and has lockers!

I figured the lockers would give me an edge but z71s also come with a locker from the factory I also noticed most people that do mudding have v8 full size trucks

I've owned both. Answer: depends on the puddle.

Ha. Go whoop him. Not even a question. Especially since he has all terrains. V8 doesn't matter. 4low and second gear will get you thru whatever he can and more. Sometimes first is better but depends on the hole

I'd take that offer when my sport was stock. Not stock anymore tho :)

Just curious which is a more capable vehicle off pavement, his reasoning for why his truck was more capable in the mud was because he has a V8 I would like to go mudding with him to find out but I'd have to find someone else to go with us because I wouldn't want both of us to be stuck in the middle of nowhere

I think it also depends on what you/he consider's "mudding" - if you're trying to actually cross obstacles and get through certain mud pits (sort of in an overlanding fashion), I'd take the rubicon.

If you're just trying to sling mud, i guess the V8 is nice, but I'd want M/Ts.

V8 doesn't make traction. I've never seen mud that's going to bog down a JK in 4lo.
