I have a 2012 JKU Sport w/17" wheels. Currently it has a set of 255 75 17 wrangler tires.

I've been on the fence for a while about new wheels and tires. I just can't get myself to fork out the dough.

Question- I know I can go up to a 33" tire w/o needing a lift and would like to go with a beefier slightly bigger tire than I have on now but keep the wheels I presently have. Would the BF Goodrich 285 70 17" all terrain tire fit on a stock 17" wheel?

Any feedback or other recommendations are appreciated!

A 285/70/17 will do fine. A 285/75/17- now that is a heavenly match with a stock rim, NO WHEEL SPACERS, and just a smidgen of elevation.

I have the same problem. I want 15's because the larger tires are significantly cheaper! As in $150-200 for the 33"
However, 15" wheels that i like (alloy) are difficult to get around my part of town (no idea why). I'm
Guessing demand is considerably less in the big'ole city.
17" wheels are affordable but that means $250-350 for tires dang it. I want them wider. It seems the 17's are the most convenient. A lot more options too.
A 17" wheel tire combo is gonna break the bank for me. Ugh

But I have seen several jeeps around town running 285/75R17 on stock wheels and they do look awesome. But a 9" wide wheel would be "awesomerrrrr" LoL

Lets see pics of whichever way u do go!

The 285's don't need wheel spacers but it's nice to have them to keep the tire off of the sway bar at full lock. I've got a friend who just picked up a jeep like that...they are nice....makes me regret only going 265/70r17

285s do NOT come in contact with sway bar at full lock with stock rims. Don't know about 295s or 305s, but if they would, would need to reduce offset and back spacing just a little bit with an aftermarket 8-8.5 wide rim

And NOT by wheel spacers

I would get the spacers if running the factory tires. More clearance, more stability, and looks better IMO.

I'd for sure go with spacers. Like Ryan mentioned, stability and looks much better, and you're set for future up sizing your tire on your oe wheels

Stability-maybe. Stress-absolutely. I like my JK with skin deep functionality.

Lol stability= functionality. Stock wheels plus 1.5" spacer=same stress as aftermarket wheel with 4.75" backspacing. Less stress than those of us running wheels with 3.75" backspacing.

Your "spacers are evil" argument is STILL invalid
