Stuck in the Mud
I got stuck in a good size mud hole today. It was deep enough so water came in through the doors. While I was submerged I did shift my t-case out of 4Lo and into neutral in order to get snatched out. Is there anything I need to worry about? I had sand in my breaks that eventually worked itself out. I got home and sprayed down all the moving parts and shopvaced out as much water from the carpet as possible. Is there a drainplug on the passeger side?
Yeah for future reference just put the tranny in neutral and you'll be good. When I get that muddy I'll put the lawn sprinkler under the jeep and let it go for an hour, just move it around every once in a while.
Well, you still have to depress the clutch in order to get the t-case into neutral. So if you do that, might as well just shift the tranny into Neutral.
soooo... lets say its an automatic... and lets say something like this happened to me as well... but instead of shifting out of low... i shifted into low... would it suck up mud? or am i fine?
i "was" going to go through a mud hole and was in high, but dummy me, stopped for some reason, and then tried to start moving again. problem was... when i stopped, the jeep seatled and i got high centered and wasn't moving. so i put it in low so that i could turn the lockers on in hopes of freeing myself. i had to be winched out, but i'm just a little worried about the t-case. not sure if it suffers the same problem as manuals with the clutch or not.

There is no car with waterproof seals, they are all water"resistant". They don't leak from rain, but if you are sitting in water, they sure will, i know mine did, so did many other's.

As a general practice you should check all of your fluids for water contamination after a day of mudding/water fording. (Diffs, Motor Oil, Tranfer/Transmission) Manual and Automatics.
