Default Studdable A/Ts for a stock 2012 Rubicon

Hello all!

On Saturday I will be trading in my 04 Rubicon for a 2012 woohoo! Unfortunately that means I will have to buy some new tires and wheels to run in the winter. I am not really interested in a dedicated snow tire since I will still want to do some wheeling over the winter.

Does anybody have any suggestions on for a good studdable A/T tire that will be roughly the same size as the stock BFGs and a set of wheels that wont require me to install spacers?

Thanks!

Studable A/T would be the Goodyear Duratrac in 265/70/17 and almost any wheel in a 17'' 4.5'' backspace is what we run our 35x 12.5/16"or 17" on
265/75/16 also same size in a 16'' wheel

Goodyear duratracs are studdable, have the snow flake rating, and should be available in your stock size not requiring any spacers or anything. I haven't driven in any snow yet, should see some snow this weekend according to the weather man, so I can't comment on how they do in the snow. I have been happy with the tires in all other areas so far, this is comparing them to the Toyo MT's I had previous and to BFG AT's.

Thanks for the replies.

Probably going to end up going with the 265/75r16 since they have a lower load rating which should be better for a wrangler, right?

Anybody have any experience with the General Grabber AT2 before I pull the trigger on these Duratracs?

Hi

I ordered the Cooper MAXX s/t 265/70/17 studded because they are legal as a wintertire in Sweden, the Duratracs are not legal as a wintertire in Sweden, I do not know why.

Read more here and se the movie

I ran at2's for about 9 years (tj and jk) . Awesome tires in snow here in PA and I never studded them. I only switched recently because they don't make a 285/70/17 or I would still be running them.

What size AT2 were you running? The 275/70r17s that have an acceptable load range are not severe snow rated so I was leaning towards the duratracs, AT2s are cheaper though...

According to tirerack.com there are two versions of the 265/70R17, one with 121/118 load index that is rated for severe snow and one 115 that is not rated for severe snow. Do you know which one you were running?

Mine always had the Snowflake symbol for severe winter weather. I liked them so much that I put them on my wife's FJ.
