Default Summer Vacation 2008

I was thinking about our up coming summer vacation and thought it would be cool to find out what everyone is doing for a summer vacation. The kinds of plans and places being checked out to see and stay.

Last week of June, first week of July.
We are going west to the Black Hills of SD, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and on to Denver for a family reunion. I'm checking out cabins that will let us bring our dog. I'm also thinking of pulling a pop-up camper trailer to save on lodging.

I picked up the National Geographic Back Roads Explorer 3D to map the trip. I have just scratched the surface of the the package, haven't figured out the 3D part. The topo's are nice but I still need to look at settings.

I'll be checking road construction on all the roads soon and will post that information when I've compiled it.

Sam.

The trick is to pretend it isn't a baby. Just take it wherever you feel like going and it will adapt.

This sounds like a great trip. I've been all around that area, but I really would love to go back. I want to check out Deadwood!

Unfortunately our summer trips this year will be 3 different weddings, 2 in Chicago (of course at different times) and 1 in Flagstaff, which would be fun, except I'm doing the photography, so don't think I'll have much time to hit any trails around there.

Moab Jeep Safari in March, Belize and Honduras in May and a week fishing in Alaska in June should be a good start for summer fun. Most likley a couple more Moab trips in between.

My son (Curtis) and I are working our way through all of the U.S. national parks each summer. We've visited 39 of the 58. This year we're headed back to Utah and will visit Canyonlands, Arches (both we've visited before), Capitol Reef and Bryce. We usually spend about three-four weeks gone, not returning until we get tired of each other. LOL. Undoubtedly, there'll be some wheeling and backpacking in the mix. He'll probably bug me to go bag another Colorado 14er, so we may drive back through there and climb a mountain or two.

Here we are on Lassen Peak last summer:
