Default Sunrider at 70 MPH

So, I figure I'll drop the Sunrider for the commute to work this morning, since I can get it down in about 2 minutes now (thanks to all the help here). Rain is coming and I didn't feel like taking out windows, etc...

I know very well the manual says not to go over 40MPH with Sunrider down and windows in... But I figure if I unzip the rear window 6 inches on each side I'll be fine.

Understand that (when there is no traffic) the Long Island Expressway moves at about 70MPH. I got on and up to speed. Let me tell you that even with the velcro straps down tight that thing jumps around at 70. The entire folded portion was bouncing and the latches where taking a beating. Without the velcro it would have been a parachute! I got off at the next exit and took the service road, staying at around 40 or 50.

Lesson learned.
Anyone else try this yet?

I've had it up to 60 with the rear window rolled up and didn't notice any problems at all... havn't used the sunrider much though... to me it's just as easy to take another 2 minutes to take the whole thing down.

I use the sunrider every weekday it is nice and have had it up to 70 with the back window rolled and up haven't had any issues. The buckles bounce a bit but other than that all has been good.

I was going to bust your chops on being a Jets Fan but....figured I would keep it out of the forum. LOL

Indeed, next time I guess the rear windown gets rolled up, not just unzipped a few inches. I was lazy and didnt feel like cleaning the window to roll it.

No problems here either going 70-80 with the Sunrider back. I just make sure the rear window is rolled up!

We were heading down 14 (a really windy highway) at about 70-75 in Sunrider position with the back window removed when a gust of wind caught the top, one of the velcro strips came loose, the bow flew up and boom-- we had a parachute! Luckily, my 12 year old has some amazing reflexes and he actually caught the bow before it blew completely back and was able to keep the top from flying as we pulled over to the shoulder.

Never a dull moment in our Jeep!

You should have received two sets of straps with your JK. Either in the glovebox or center console at delivery, maybe with the soft top hardware too...

The pair of velcro straps are for fastening the bows together (left side / right side) when the top is down or in sunrider mode.

The pair of stretchy buttoned straps snap to the rear most bow and form a loop to hold up the rear window when you roll it up (make sure it is perfectly clean when rolled).
