Supposed to be another Outing
Son and I went to our local Maclean Creek PLUZ near Calgary last weekend and hit some pretty good flex type trails. Got to the top of the first real hill and steering felt a little stiff. Turned out the right side of the sway bar had reversed and wrapped the link around the drag link. Some trail repairs and away we went. And I never thought that any flexing up to that point was worthy of consideration to do this damage but it did. Normally my sway bar was pointing slightly uphill with the Jeep standing level. Have ordered MC 12" links which will make the ends of the bar about 2-1/2" higher than pivot point. Won't happen again. Just noted this as cautioning for other members.
I'm a little surprised that you don't disconnect in those situations. Most the time I disconnect completely even if it's not going to be an aggressive outting. I'll do it just so things are a bit more comfortable if nothing else.
Hey this was a well travelled by me trail with no prior issues but I guess the weather changed its shape to do this. Had the Ruby swaybar disconnected and it did have longer links to compensate for the lift but once the 12" ones go on it will not happen again. Sometimes I believe the bar should be a stocker with the top/bottom both links disconnects to do what you say.
Personally I don't even like sway bars as any will impede flexing even a Currie. Might even take the bar right off. I am able to drive vehicles that lean more on corners so don't see a need for them on Jeeps.
I've known a few folks that did without. My dad lives in Colorado up in the mountains and I've done a decent bit of driving without my front sway bar connecxted cuz I'm too lazy to reconnect when coming off a trail to make a drive home or to another trail if I know I'm just going to disconnect again soon. I've had a few uneasy moments in curvy mountain roads at highway speeds
so I've always preferred to have mine for pavement purposes, but I can see how some folks don't mind.
