Default Symetrical 4x4

Anyone heard of this description? I overheard someone ask the question "is it a symetrical 4X4" I have never heard these two terms together. Can someone define this and symetrical as opposed to what?

symmetrical = font and rear axles turn the same amount = 4 wheel drive.
In contrast to all wheel drive where front and rear turn different amounts (potentially).

I believe Symmetrical all-wheel drive is a term/concept cooked up by Subaru. I think it also has to do with the balance of the vehicle in Subaru's case.
