Default tent trailers

I am looking into bying a tent trailer that is off road capable. i dont mean to have it hooked up all the time but i would like to park off the road more than at a camp site. I was looking at the evolution E 3 by fleetwood but the gvwr is 4400lb and the tongue weight is 395lb is that to much for the jk 4 door. I know that the stock limets are 3500 and 350 but i was wondering what people are doing to tow stuff like this and if any buddy out there has one of theis trailers.

Right now I'm leaning towards a Chaser Adventure Trailer to store in the garage and use for off road adventures when not towing the jeep with the RV. Will make a good astronomy setup out in the boonies. Unfortunately, pricey but incredible quality and painful to acquire initially but that would wear off. Probably will get one.

I've got the E3, I normally tow it with my truck, but want to be able to tow it with my jeep on occasion. I hooked it up today just to move it around in the yard, I had no problems at all. It did squat down in the rear but I know a WDH will fix that.

Before I take it out on the road I'm going to install an electronic brake controller and a transmission cooler, and a WDH. Then I would eventually like to re-gear.

Now the E2 is a very nice camper and should work just fine at 2500#, but w/out the slide the E3 has it's really cramped for space, plus you get more storage with the E3. I wanted the E2 but the wife saw the extra space in the E3 and we ended up getting it.

I know I'm going to be pushing the limits with the E3 but I wouldn't be towing it that far with my Jeep so I think it'll work out.

There are some pics of my jeep hooked up to my camper that shows the squatting over in the show and tell section. Good luck with your decision.

I have a 1943 military Bantam trailer. I have mounted a eezi awn to the top of it. It is not modern like the adventure trailer but not as expensive either. The tent did cost a bit though. total weight of trailer w/ tent 800 lbs + 500 lbs of camping gear H20 and extra fuel.

Not full house like the pop up trailer. But I like the idea of camping being outside still and not sleeping on the ground is great. Still trying to figure out how to mount the tent on the jeep.

I've got a M101-Canadian trailer and was planning on fabbing a top with brakets and adding an eezi awn-type tent like you have. Still can't decide between that and, selling the M101 and purchasing an Adventure Trailer or better yet a Campa trailer campausa.com .

You should really try your post on the link below. This is an excellent forum for pop-ups. There are a few, on the forum, who tow pup's with TJ's.

I personally think the JK tow rating is underrated by Jeep. My old XJ was rated at 5K. It had smaller rear axle and higher gears (3.55). Not to mention a uni-body structure. The JK is similar in length to the XJ. Stronger body on frame design, D-44 rear and optioned with the 4.10 R&P. 3500lb tow rating just does not make sense to me

Does anyone still make trailers simular to the old Bantam's, M416 and M101's (in the Midwest). I would really like one. I'm expect for my future JK-Unlimited to get a bit crowed going camping with the wife, kids, dog and gear.

Adventure Trailers base price is between $4000 and $8000 and the closet dealer is 1400 miles away. I was hoping to find something more around $1200, and in the Midwest.

I did find the following trailer at JC Whitney. I believe the OEM is THULE: The size and price is good but the tires are on the small size.

Let me know what you think.

Consider these other trailer ideas:

SpecOps Trailer

Pulmor

Strongbox

RedTrailer

I'm leaning toward selecting the RedTrailer one because it appears to offer the greatest number of configuration options, and folds for easy storage in the garage.
