I suspect that you live in New Jersy. If so they have a lemon law.. I got this info from a layers web site.

What is the Lemon Law?
The Lemon Law is designed to protect consumers that purchase new cars, trucks, SUVs and mini-vans. As of 1993 all fifty U.S. states have passed Lemon Laws. Each state has different standards and procedures, but all have similar coverage.

There are also other Consumer Protection laws that apply to consumer product purchases. Complaints, recalls and class actions are also an option for certain cases. There are options for new, used and leased vehicles.

What if the New Jersey Lemon Law does NOT apply?
If the defects with your vehicle do not meet the requirements of the Lemon Law, you may have claims under other state and federal laws that protect owners of new or used vehicles.

What kind of vehicles are covered under state and federal laws?
QUALIFICATION: 3 unsuccessful repairs or 20 calendar days
out of service within shorter of 2 years or 18,000 miles.

NOTIFICATION/TRIGGER: Certified mail notice, return receipt requested to manufacturer who has 10 days to repair. State has certified guidelines for arbitration. Law specifically applies to leased vehicles.

Michigan's is VERY similar all 50 states have some sort of Lemon law. I had to do it for a Chevy S10. I would make sure you have over the 20 days as well as the 3 unsuccessful (typically for the same thing) attempts, and get them to completely replace the vehicle.

If there is any hope that your confidence in the JK could be restored over time, I'd keep it. You've already taken the biggest depreciation hit and you've got a new engine. Sounds like the problems you're finding are being addressed. If you did get rid of it, what would you buy next?

thanks guys for the support i really like my jeep and the jeep community so that would be the only reason i would keep it.

as for the lemon law after this attempt to repair it will be the third time in a month for the same problem. i have all the paper work to prove it so i see no reason i wouldnt be able to use the lemon law.

now the problem or really pain in the ass is having to take all my stuff off the jeep and put it on the new one if i get another one.

if i am out of a jeep i would go for a f250. they have always been my favorite truck and i would lift it till i cant get in it. (gotta make up for other stuff)

As for the tranny problems in mud, be for warned, there are vents in the bottom of the manual tranny. they are to help cool the clutch and its componenets. now if you submerge the tranny, which can easily be done since it sits below the door sills, and shift there is a high possibility that you can do damage to the clutch master cylinder, pressure plate and or throw out bearing. my instance i actually was able to pack soo much mud into the thow out bearing that it would not release the clutch and also packed soo much mudd that it filled the master cylinder. $1800 later and a huge lesson learned i think

I thought the general rule with a manual tranny and mudding was don't ever shift while stuck or in heavy mud?

I guess thats why I always buy autos for offroading. Although they have their issues and warnings too.

Hey Lou is you go after the lemon law I've seen where they made the dealer take all the aftermarket stuff off the old one and put it one the new jeep, the Chrysler rep made them do it, I think its part of them trying to make you a happy customer again. Have you spoke with Chrysler? or just been dealing locally with the dealer?

I put 6,000 in the first 2 months.
I just went over 6,000 miles last week. I've had it for 14 months. I actually just put 1,000 on it in the month of December.

Runs great though, zero problems.

i have to let them fix or attempt to fix it this one last time then i am going to presue chrysler. the shop manager has been great but the people he has working for him are the ones i don't trust

First off...Good Luck with your decision, whatever it will be. I have been through the lemon law here in CA. Was not tough but not easy either. Normally its the first 12months or 12k miles. 3 offenses of the same issue. On the 4th you need to call the factory and have a factory rep look at it to give recommendations. If the issue is still presaent after that fix then by rights you can get your vehicle replaced. It does not have to be a jeep. Any vehicle can be a replacement but the factory will only cover what MSRP was on your vehicle. If you pick out one with a higher MSRP then you pay the diff. If its lower then you lose.
I opted for the same type vehicle but the smaller engine was not available so I got a year newer truck with a bigger engine and did not pay anything. They removed my tonnou(?sp) cover and repainted it to match the new truck.
Personnally it sounds like you have had some bad luck and just need to ride it through.

If you only have 6k miles, I'm guessing yours has already been out of service for 20 days? No? Don't take a beating on it, get it replaced!! What's the chances of getting another bad one?

My 08 has been absolutely trouble free!
