thinking of getting a 4 door rubicon, thoughts?
Recently i've been thinking of trading in or selling my 2010 toyota tacoma for a used rubicon that's been build up and lifted etc etc. Thinking i can get a used rubi with under 50k mi for around 25 and get at least 10k out of my truck from what i still owe i could walk away with a 15k loan on the rubicon.
This would replace my truck with i primariry use for winter and picking up parts and the occasional towing. I have a daytona 675 and a honda s2000 which i use 90% of the time when it's nice out.
Has anyone on here gone from a tacoma to a 4 door JK, and how are your thoughts. Would you do it again? Only think that does concern me is the JK has 3k less towing capacity and while i haven't towed too often i have towed my honda s2000 a couple times. Also has less room vs the truck bed but i think i can get away with that and buy a nice army trailer to restore if needed. What would suck is that i wouldn't be able to grab a 4x8' sheet of ply anymore.
Thoughts?

Are you needing the off-road capabilities or 4wd for winter or is this a want?
Look through the threads some of these guys tow some good size items. Most of them say it is rough on hills but it get there soon or later.

I bought am 11' JKU rubi after not being able to get a decent deal on a used JK; it seems any low mileage JKU rubi was only a little bit less than a new one; so I went w/ new.
I also have to carry a lot of stuff; construction materials and such but maybe not as often as you; the good thing about the JK is you can drive w/ the rear window up with 2x4's or whatever hanging out the back ; which I've already done a couple of times. Any suv w/o an opening rear window or something like that will be much harder to carry longer items such as 2x4's or pipe. I've even driven the JK once w/ the rear window up and a couple of bungee cords holding the open rear door when something was too big to fit. I also put in a full liner in the back to protect the interior, and usually put a tarp over that before I load in construction stuff.
I only absolutely have to have a pickup maybe once or twice a year; I could rent one for those occaisions, the rest of the time I need an suv a lot more than a pickup so personally the JK works for me.

I live in upstate NY, so i deffinately need 4x4 for winter or awd. 2wd does not cut it and fwd won't move either, i do some very light offroading now but thats becaus emy truck is a 2010 and mint, if i had a older used jeep i wouldn't be as concerned with taking it offroad
I have a Tacoma and a JK Rubicon 2-dr. (had a Sahara 4-dr. before). The only things better about the Tacoma are the engine/transmission and the ability to haul bigger stuff. My Tacoma has way more power than my JK--no comparison. Now the new 2012 JK is supposed to be more powerful, so it may compare better to the Tacoma powerwise. I use the Tacoma to haul motorcycles. Obiously neither of my JK's could do that, and using a trailer was sometimes a pain. Other than that, if I had to choose between the two, the JK would be my choice. It's just all around more fun to drive and 10X cooler!
Had a friend of mine trade in his V8 Tundra for a 4D JK Saraha. Initially he was uneasy and missed his truck, but once he got that JK off-road and began doing some light mod work to it (and being able to take top/doors off) he says his JK is hands down the best vehicle he's ever owned.

get it, I love mine. Now if your all mechanical and plan on upgrading axels and lifting it sky high dont get it. If your like me and want to mabe lift it a couple inches and run no bigger than 35s its your best bet.
The best part? You will no longer bang your head on the top of the door opening getting in and out of the jeep. One of my friends had a Tacoma, and I hit my head every time I rode in it. We are not Japanese.
