Default Throw out bearing question

Is it a bad idea to drive the jeep long distances with the throw out bearing ticking away? Need a quick answer. Thanks

Kinda a tough call without hearing it. ALL throwout bearings make some kinda noise. Even brand new on the assembly line when they pull um out. If I could hear it with the Jeep running with the windows UP I wouldn't drive it a long way. Just "MY" personal opinion though and nothing more.

I can barely hear it while driving but it reacts to the heat of the engine. Higher temps louder ticking.

Mine is perfectly silent when it's not running, windows up or down.

mines not... I can hear it when the Jeep is not running and when it is running. windows up or down....

I've already had it replaced once and it took a total of 1 tank of gas until it started squeaking and ticking like hell again.

back to the dealer although I'm gonna find a different dealer.

as far as the question, sorry can't really advise but I drove with it bad for about 2-3 months before I had it replaced and about 1 month with this new clutch and haven't had any real issues except knowing something is f-ed up

How do you hear a throw out bearing when the Jeep is not running?

when i engage the clutch while the Jeep is off it squeaks, ticks, grinds.. basically sounds like hell. at least I think it's the throwout bearing... I always notice it after driving the Jeep, put her in first, kill the Jeep, let the clutch out and squeak, tick, grind...

Before I had mine replaced it only made noise while running, no noise at all with it turned off.

I hear ya... whatever it is it's not right and it's the exact same symptoms I had before when they replaced the clutch after I showed them the TSB for the throwout bearing. maybe someone can enlighten me and this thread with other possibilities of the issue. Wonder if Jeep will do the work/install if I get an aftermarket/upgraded clutch to avoid going through this again and avoid their crappy clutches.....

sorry about the slight hijack.... back to the original question; whats the effects of driving with a bad throwout bearing?

my dealer had to order the part so instead of driving around the purple PT cruiser they wanted to give me i opted to keep the jeep until they got the part and mine is screaming for help. it's really loud and i have been driving on it for a week now.
