Tin Can Clank?
Hey eveyone. I taught one of my good friends how to drive manual the other night. She stalled I'd say about 15x tell she finally got it down. Very low rpm stalls, ya know from her learning how to feather the clutch and gas. I figured this would happen, but I also figured it wouldn't cause any damage. I get this sound like tin cans being hit together at low rpms. Happens when I'm just starting out. Its that sound that happens when your about to stall you know?...Cept its doing it further up into the rpm band were I'm in no risk of stalling. What the heck is this?
Sounds like probably the exhaust. I bet she probably shook somethin loose. Sounds like you're the one who needs to be taught HOW to teach somebody how to drive a clutch. Know the EASIEST way in the world? I've done it so many times I've lost count and it works in 15 minutes or less EVERYTIME. Everybody finds it easy to shif once you get rolling....it's starting off that's the killer. Here's how you do it. Find a slight incline where the Jeep will roll backwards if not held with the brake. Then, teach her how to ride the clutch and keep the Jeep still. Once she gets that down, she's DONE. then, just turn around and tell to ride the clutch as LITTLE as possible.
There ya go...forces you to do it. She kept releasing the pedal slow tell she reached the engagement point, then let it all the way out and I'm like NOO your doing it backwards haha. I drew her a diagram of how it works she figured it out pretty fast. It only makes the sound sometimes so I could be paranoid, however I'm pretty in tune with the jeep so I know it wasn't doing it before... idk. Good idea though about the hill.
