Hi I’ve been looking for a “new” car to replace my jeep renegade with and found a 2013 jku Sahara on Craigslist that’s in my budget. It has 160,000 miles which I think is fine, but it has a (what I think is) significant amount of rust on the undercarriage. I’m willing to put in a lot of time sanding and painting but don’t want to spend more than $700 replacing parts. Is that possible to do with the rust it has? I would really appreciate answers from anyone who knows anything about this topic.
That looks pretty normal for a northern vehicle to me. I'd rather look for something from the south or Texas area. There are so many out there that wouldn't really require that kind of effort IMO. It's certainly not as bad as we've seen, and things like the steering components likely need to be replaced/refreshed anyhow. I'd be mainly concerned with bracketry which isn't very beefy to start with.
