Default Softop ok?

In my owners manual for my '03 Rubicon, it says NOT to use any kind of wax on the soft top. I took this to mean by hand or automatic.

It is no where in the current JK owners manual whether this is the same or not. Anybody know any different?

I have taken my TJ with the soft top before. It was a sailcloth by bestop. No problems. So the Mopar ones are also sailcloth, therefore you should be ok. It can withstand it no problems

Took my 82 CJ and 89 YJ with soft tops through 'touch' carwashes with no problems. The most damage to the soft top was rolling up dirty windows.

Jeep's soft tops are all OEM by Bestop and they sell replacement parts. You used to be able to buy window kits, no idea if the new ones can be had that way.

Still waiting for half doors on a short wheelbase.

I use the Touchless Car Wash up here about once a week. Almost every Friday. Been doing it for years. Within the last month, since I've owned my JK Unlimited WITH a Soft Top, I take that right on through too! Once the Washing is done, I dart pass the Blower, so as to not effect the Top, and it hasn't at all! No leaks, nothing. After I use the Touchless, I use the self serve Wash, drop 2 dollars, and rinse everything again, first with the High Pressure Blast, and then with the Spot Free Rinse. Afterwards, I pull out my Micro Fiber Towels, and Dry. NOT A SINGLE Scratch anywhere on my JK, and like I've said, I've been doing this for awhile with my JK, and years with my other Vehicles. I don't hand wash anymore, because in the past, something always managed to get into my Wash Mitts, and scratched the Paint. I've never had this happen using my method above in the last couple of years. Yeah, it does cost $$ doing so every week, but afterwards, it sure looks brand spanking NEW! For instance, my JK just 2 days ago, was extremely FILTHY! Ran it through, rinsed off in the Stall next to the Touchless, Dried, and it looked GREAT, with absolutely NO scratches. (Even with the Plastic Windows on the Softtop) The only way to go IMHO. I spend about $11.00 per Washing once a week, plus the time to Dry. Twice a month I'll clean the inside, Tires, Etc. I also use Invisible Glass for all the Glass Windows, along with a Micro-Fiber Towel. I don't use anything but these Towels. They won't scratch Paint, nor the Plastic Windows. For the Plastic Windows, I use the MOPAR Plastic Polish, applied with a Soft Circular Wax Applicator, let dry, and buff off with a Micro-Fiber Towel. I'm fanatical about the upkeep on my Vehicles! I'm switching to the BESTOP 2-Piece Hardtop for my JK Unlimited, as soon as BESTOP answers a few of my questions first. Hope this helps....

Thanks all for the replies... Lionhart, nice write up. Might have to try that!

Are you just doing the wash cycle through the touchless or one that uses wax?

No spotting noticed as of yet?

Thanks!

I see that you say you dart through the air blower. My car wash's doors won't open until the dryer has made it's second pass! Has anyone ran a softtop through the wash and used the blow dryer?

I take my 95 YJ with a soft top through the dryers. I haven't had a damage to the top. It does make your ears feel like they're going to implode though from all the pressure.

I took mine through the automatic wash with the brushes, everything turned out ok, the blower just made alot of noise on the soft top of my jk but other than that everything was ok except for the large brushes kept flingin my antenna around! next time i will remember to take it off!
