I tow just about weekly behind my 4-door. Had an '07, just upped to a '10. Both were great with the stick. I can pull my little 8' camper like it is nothing. My 17' boat is a bit more of a challenge. It pulls well back there, but I can definitely tell it is there. A lot of downshifting is needed going up hills to stay within 10MPH of the speed limit. Personally, I wouldn't try it much with the auto.

Yes, I may be exaggerating it. I know that the JK can tow more than the limits set. But I would certainly be worried about the consequences of doing so...
What I don't understand is why the 4dr JK is rated so low in the US (3500 lbs). I Europe, they are rated just over 7k lbs so I know its not the engine, axle, brakes, or transmission. It must be a US specific Formula or a company lawyer formula. Does anyone know?

That question has been asked here quite a few times. There is a lot of speculation, but nobody knows the answer. All I know is that with my budget, I can't afford for the insurance guys to tell me to go pound sand, so I made sure my boat was under the 3500lb limit...
