Toyota FJ being discontinued!
same. if that bronco was avaliable i would of been all over it.
Yes, competition is a good thing. However, if there was no other competition and Jeep started slipping, Another manufacturer might decide the time was right to introduce a challenger. They might not bother if the Wrangler was still wildly popular.
If Chevy made a legit reintroduction of the Blazer, similar to that Bronco concept, I might get nostalgic for my youth and buy one. Hell, the other day I saw a really clean red/white two tone '78 Blazer for sale and was tempted to fork over the $14,900 the guy was asking! If it had been blue/white I think I would have bought it on the spot. It is really rare to find one without a trashed interior and a rattle can camo paint job.
I love Jeeps, but I could be lured away.
As for the FJ, I see a ton around here on pavement. Trails, not so much.

I guess its sad to see one of the last real offroad rigs go but the Fj wasn't really competition for the JK. Maybe when it first came out, and had they done SOMETHING or ANYTHING to it since it could of been but Chrysler and Jeep have been on top with the Wrangler. Look at all the special editions they come out with; islander and Rocky mountain edition, Artic, 70th Anniversary, Freedom edition, Mojave, Moab, The COD's, Rubicon 10th Ann, and now Rubicon X. Mike Manley has said how big of an asset Wrangler is to them. They have been investing a lot of money into it and it's not likely they'll slow down because of this. Toyota is sadly going a different direction.
Would be sweet if Ford brought back there Bronco!! I thought fore sure when they introduced the Raptor the Bronco would follow

Agreed that the sad part about the FJ disappearing is yet another company pulling out of making vehicles tough enough to be used offroad.
I've seen the occasional FJ off-road. But, if your idea of off-road is at the local rock crawling park, no, I don't see them there. I do seem them out on the overlanding/expedition type trips, and many of them are very highly built--for that purpose, not for rock crawling. On my just completed Colorado Campaign trip, I'll bet I saw at least a hundred, most of them very built, on Engineer Pass/Mineral Creek. They were in Ouray, where I'll bet I saw another couple hundred, for some type of FJ festival. They have their fans. The vehicle is every bit as capable as the Jeep for overlanding/expedition travel. Don't knock it just because it's ugly as sin (it really is, isn't it?) and you don't see them where the Jeep solid axles prevail.
Hey! I used to own one and i thought it looked awesome....but yes a lot of ppl think they are ugly and just like when i got my jku ppl ask "why didn't u just buy a hummer?" My answer was the same for the fj & jk "cause a hummer is just an over sized station wagon, if i wanted a wagon I'd buy a Volvo. Hummers suck!"

I do not think too many people are torn between an FJ and Wrangler when making such a purchase. I believe it is more often brand loyalty and quality (or lack of, in Jeeps case) perception. Probably 90% of people who want an "off road" vehicle privately know that it will be driven only on roads. IMO more status symbol than anything.
At least in the Wranglers case, even if never off road one can take the top and doors off.
And I do not think the FJ is ugly. It is FUGLY.

I'm going to admit: I've seen some really superb looking built ones--including with tube doors. They all had one thing in common (to me): No two-tone paint job. There's one running around here that is really nice--and I say that because it's almost the same shade of green as my Jeep Green Jeep. LOL. Someday I'll catch up with him and find out who he is and I hope he doesn't disappoint by saying that he doesn't really off-road it. Winch? Gas cans? Second spare? Better not say that.
