Default Traction control gets my approval

Traveling through southeastern Ohio tonight, we encountered roads coated with a layer of ice. This was a 4 lane highway with very little curves or hills. We passed 8-10 wrecks within a ten mile stretch of highway. Two wrecks occurred in front of us. One of the idiots that passed us lost control and took out the car in front of us NASCAR bump draft style. The other idiot in a newer model Ford Explorer passed us, fish tailed about ten car lengths in front of us, lost control, and crossed through the center median and broadsided an oncoming car. I was traveling about 30-40 mph and every time the Jeep started to fish tail the traction control light flashed on and the Jeep straightened itself out. I did not engage the 4wheel drive system as it would not have helped on ice. With careful alert driving, the system proved to be very helpful.

Talking oohhh

I disabled it, It has helped once or twice, but I like controlling the Jeep, sometimes I need it to do EXACTLY what I say......

But good to know it helps on ice, If it gets icy I guess I will put it back...

if you break traction, you're more likely to fish tail. if you had been in 4wd, the esp probably wouldn't have even kicked in.
x2

But that esp sure works well though.

I was very happy with it. We got our first decent snowfall in the east and driving early this morning before salt or anything was out was pretty slippery. I had started to slide once pretty good and the esp kicked right in did its job great. After that I turned on the 4wd and never needed it again, but it definately served its purpose well. I was impressed.

Thanks for the report! I've had the controls kick in once: Going onto a rain-soaked off ramp. Glad to know it's there and working. With all the trouble reports on the forum, it's refreshing to see a my-Jeep-is-working-as-designed-and-saving-my-bacon thread!

I have tried to do a spin out in snow and ice just to see how good the ESP is and the jeep corrected and prevented the spin out. I am very impressed with this system in my Rubi.

I woke up early yesterday to finally try my jeep in the snow. I left it in 2wd. I was amazed how well this thing handles rwd only. The esp kicked twice. At a traffic light I floored it. Couldn't get the ass end to budge. Good job DC!!!!

IMO it's a great system, I have tried a few times to get the wifes JK unlimited to come around in both rain and snow. It keeps it pretty straight.

I drive twisty mountain roads out in the country everday and I have yet to see it let the back end come out very far. I also very rarly put it in 4wd. Even on the really steep driveways I go up and down. I find that I have to turn off the ESP sometimes. But for the most part it kicks ass. I just dont like how you rely on it after awhile.
