Default Trading in 2007 IS350

Thanks for all of yalls help with deciding which transmission to get! I decided I wanted an 08 flame red 2dr rubicon with dual tops, power locks, windows etc. an auto transmission. SO I call the dealership and see what they have and they say to bring my trade in by (a 2007 lexus IS350 with Nav and luxury package with 7,500 miles on it in excellent condition that I paid $42,000 cash for). So after some time nobody has even looked at my car and I ask the lady who was helping me what the deal was and she stated they would give me $28,500 for it. That would leave me with paying near $4,000 for the jeep. Im angry. Opinions greatly appreciated.

Sell the car yourself. They'll never give you a square deal at the dealership.

I would sell it myself. Even with the discounted sales tax on the trade-in, you only save about $570. Alabama automotive sales tax is only 2%. I'm sure you can get more than that for the Lexus if you sell it on your own. Try Craigslist, eBay and Auto Trader.

Good luck!

Most Dealers make more money on the used vehicles.

Sell it yourself , try Carmax(you can still get the tax credit), or push the Dealer a little harder.

Sounds like you have money and trust me they know it.

Don't trade that car in! Sell it outright. They will make more money off of your trade in than they will selling you the Jeep. Don't be angry at them, they can't help that they are cheaters, thieves, liars, and complete losers!

I've never sold a car by myself. If I were to take it to carmax would they give me about what I would get if I sold it privately? Also If I sold it privately I assume I would get a check for it? If so, how do you trust somebodys check? sounds sketchy.

You can set up a money transfer through a bank or get a certified bank check. I would never trade anything in again, they rip you off. There is no way that type of vehicle has depreciated that much that quickly. If you want to know how much your car is really worth, go to www.galves.com that is the company they use to price used vehicles, I know this for a fact. They charge you $4.99 for 24 hours of online service. Good Luck

Best way to trust somebody is to have them pay cash. I they can right a check, they can pay cash. If they insist on a check, go to the bank with them, cash it, and then sign over the title. Now, if they take out a loan to buy the vehicl, go to the bank with them and cash the check. If they do a Capital One loan (which I'm not sure is good for used), it will have instructions on it.

If your really worried about selling your vehicle, ask a friend who is savy with ebay to help out.

The one warning I would give (that is easily avoided) is watch out for joyriders. People will want to test drive your vehicle. I always ask to see a drivers license and current insurance. After that I insist, in a nice as possible way, that I will ride with them. I had motorcycles in college and when I would sell them a lot of joyriders came out of the woodwork. I usually rode another motorcycle beside the interested buyer.
Same thing with my last wrangler. It just looks like a fun vehicle to try to drive.

Once you find a buyer, DEFINiTELY do not hand over title/keys until a check has cleared. If paying cash, I would go with purchaser to bank with the cash and deposit it first. There is a reason gas stations look at you like your an alien when you hand them a $100 bill. I think most people will understand that you are just being careful and if they dont, they probably have a reason why!

It is a bit of work, but considering the money gained, especially in your situation, well worth your time and effort.
