I've owned a XJ, TJ, WJ and now a JK.

I like the select-trac transfer case since it has a full time 4WD position. Sometimes, in a heavy rain or just a light snow I would run in the full time selection in case I hit a bad spot on the road.

Is there a technical reason why a select-trac is not offered in the JK?

Select trac is only on the Jeep's SUV's

On the TJ and JK, it's Command Trac, much better, but you have to learn how to use it.

You can use 4HI on light snow with no problem.
On heavy rain, use 2HI and ESP will help you

 

The shift-on-the-fly thing works very well - on and off - within the speed limits it's designed for. Generally if the ESP and the shift-on-the-fly isn't enough, you're going too fast for the conditions.

But I like to do donuts so my ESP is off. lol
