Default transfer case

I just got my JK and I was testing out the 4wd and at first found it difficult to shift into 4 hi and then found even worse to get into 4 lo. At one point I could not get out turn off the rear lockers, it just kept blinking. I shifted the TC into neutral and then back into 4 lo and she grinded good, I tried turning the car off and that didnt' work. Eventually I was able to turn if off and take it out of 4 lo after moving a few feet. Guess its going into service soon.

I'm not sure I totally understand you, but were you completely stopped when trying to shift in/out of 4-lo? It's really hard to shift the t-case to low while stopped. You should be rolling a little bit.

Yah, there is nothing wrong with it, you just have to get the gears to mesh. Roll forward or backward a little and it will go.

We have had a real hard time getting into 4-low at times. We have an automatic and were moving 2-3 miles per hour when having the problem.

This is our first Jeep but I have had 4wd vehicles for 20 years and it does seem as though something is wrong.

Its an auto, I have a TJ and I've used 4 lo before. Getting into 4 lo was hard and getting out of 4 lo was just as hard. Actually my buddy had a similar problem, but his was stuck in 4 lo and no matter what he did it was going anywhere. He had to replace the cable as it wasn't being lined up with something, I wanted to see if was a common problem.

Is the problem your buddy experienced with a JK?

Yes its a JK, I actually spoke to another person about this and he works at DC, and it is a known problem, not sure if it will make the recall list but people have spoken about it. I'm going to try again tomorrow and if it gives me grief its going in for service.

Being stuck in 4 lo would be a bitch.
