Default Underbody protection..

So i have a question.. has anyone? Oil sprayed the underneath of there Jeeps.. Especially those who drive in the winters.. I just figure it might save the frame from rust/rot a little bit etc.. .Is this ok to do? Has anyone had it done? Does Chrysler offer it at the dealers.. of you are purchasing a new Jeep?

Thanks

A friend of mine consistantly uses WD-40 under his truck, and I did it to my Jeep. Seems like it works pretty good. Hes had his truck for 6 years now and it still looks pretty new. This was back in Indiana too...with lots of salt on the road.

When you mean oil sprayed do you mean some type of hard coating like rhino or linex? If so then sure it would help with rust/rot on the underside of jeep. My dealer did it when it was brand new and of course they got overspray on the side of the jeep and gave it back to me like that! They did not however cover the frame really. It was mostly the bottom of the body.

I live in Chicago and they salt the roads till they are stained white in the winter. I new i never had a chance at wining the long term battle against rust and rot. So i bought a cheap honda beater that i drive in the winter. Sounds stupid i know but the snow only lasts one/two days max before its gone and the roads are white from the salt. I really plan on keeping my jeep for a long long time.

Anyways if you are talking about spraying the bottom with oil i think that is a mistake. With oil comes dirt/dust/road grime that will eventually just retain moisture and make things worse.

Something else i do to help keep the bottom in good shape is after i wheel. i give it a good bath underneath/get it dried out real good and do some rattle can touch up on scratches and rust spots.

x2

Just buy the 3m or Dupicolor Undercoating spray from any auto store. its relativly cheap and last a long long time... I've done it to every vehicle i've owned.

1. dampens road noise- big time noticeable
2. stops rust
3. looks good
4. dealers charge almost $600 to do it to a new vehicle - will cost you about 50$ in cans
5. Makes cleaning the mud off easier.

p.s. Buy a simple breather mask and head sock, wear googles while spraying
