Default Undercoating and Paint Protection

When I picked up my Jeep the dealer offered me an undercoating/paint protection service. Is it really worth it? I ended up getting a free undercoating out of the deal just by bargaining with him, but I have not made an appointment yet. If I do not get the undercoating I could use the money for the snazzy mopar slush mats and maybe one of those slick fuel doors. Durring the winters here it snows quite a bit and the roads get nice and salty so this is definitely a concern of mine. Here is where there questions begin----> Since I plan to work under the car quite a bit would the sticky tar substance they use get in my way or is it easy to work around? Would the paint protection they offer really be that much more effective than just regulary washing/waxing it?

Thanks for helping me out!

Never, and I repeat, never get dealer applied undercoating. It is a money-making scheme on their part.

The only one I would recomend is the interior protection, it comes with a good gaurantee, if you ever get a stain that wont come out, they replace it free of charge.
All the undercaotings I'v seen are just a nasty mess. I live in Ne. so alot of winter salt here, I just wash regularly and i've never had under body corrosion problems. Also, after I take delivery I put it up on a rack and use some rustoleum on bare metal parts, driveshaft, pitman arm, steering knuckles, ect.
As far as the 'clearcaot protection' I have gotten it and not gotten it on various vehicles and I honestly haven't seen ANY advantages to it, I use the good old wash and wax every other wash method, and I still have shiny paint. hope this helps some, good luck with your decision. Jon

I use flat black, it applies well and not noticeable when it starts to get old like the gloss would be. I give it about 4-5 good heavy coats, lasts for years and looks OE. Jon

Thanks guys. I think I will just scratch all of the dealer applied stuff and just use it for mopar goodies.
