Default WARNING: Buzzkill- 3 Teens die muddin'

I hate to bring up a sad subject but saw this story and wanted to share. Safety first! Carbon monoxide is a silent killer, but man...

3 teens die after SUV gets stuck in mud

Updated: June 30, 2008 11:18 AM

TULLAHOMA, TN (AP) - Police say three Middle Tennessee teenagers died when their sport utility vehicle became stuck in mud which plugged the exhaust system. Eighteen-year-old Josh Baker of Winchester, 17-year-old Kristie Burton of Lynchburg and 15-year-old Alyssa Rucker of Tullahoma were found dead in the vehicle Saturday night. Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves said the teens had been mudding near Normandy Lake when their SUV bogged down. Graves said they called for help, but kept the vehicle running.

Graves said preliminary tests showed high levels of carbon monoxide in the victims, but autopsies were being done. Graves said the windows were rolled up to keep mud from flying into the vehicle and the engine had been left on until the SUV ran out of fuel.

Wow-- that is really sad, and probably not something everyone thinks about. Nothing can bring these kids back, but hopefully this article will keep someone else from making the same mistake....

Don't know myself. I think they were just hanging out waiting for someone to tow them out.

That is so sad. One doesn't think about things like this happening, it is good to have a heads up.

Sad, there was another story like this a few months back. Father wheeling with two kids in back got stuck. If I remember correctly one or both of the kids died in the back of the vehicle while the Dad was outside trying to get it extracted.
