I never have been one that was accused of rubbing through the paint over time with a wash rag, but I do wash up after going to the deer lease or a camping trip, not often just wash just because or to get a week's worth of road film off. Now saying that, I do like the look after I do wash it up, I just don't worry about it if it does a little dusty.
i see a lot of vehicles, not just jeeps, but trucks too that always look like they just came from the detail shop. Seems like there are more and more jeeps out there on the road that look like they never get far from the garage much less a dirt road.
Anyway, how many people wash up their jeep just because it's that time of the week or do you wait till it's dirty?
When I had the time, I'd wash it once a week. I (used to) put some serious miles on it so it was "time" after about a week. I also try to knock me dirt off after wheeling. The more you keep it polished up, the easier it is to keep it clean. I can go through the nastiest mud and the majority of the body will be spotless. Undercarriage needs attention, but that's another day.
I wash her when it is time or a little after. If we go to the beach I always try and at least rinse her off. I stay so busy I have hard time finding opportunities to wash any of the vehicles! I don't want to go through a car wash!
Pretty nasty what made me wash mine this time, I was on the way to work yesterday and a dump truck pulled out on the loop ahead of me, it was leaving the pilgrims pride plant, the truck driver either missed a gear or just jerked bad in gear and part of his "cargo" sloshed over the top of the back gate, there was a slurry of chicken feet, guts, and who knows what else splashed out onto the road, the left lane was full and I didn't have much choice but to run through it, needless to say that the smell on the rest of the way to work wasn't nice.
I never thought about it, but I figured waste like that should be in a sealed container, but it was just in a dump truck
I finally detailed my interior last week that still had remnants from a wheeling trip last November, only to go to Colorado this week and get it all nasty again. Usually the inside is all dusty and dirty, and it's lucky to get a super quick wash on the exterior just to rinse off all the crud from wheeling.
I usually only wash after a road trip or off roading trip. I do clay bar it once a year too. If it’s just dusty I don’t worry about it. I also like to hose it down in winter after much of the snow has burnt off
My rigs are parked out in front of my garage (garage stores my Trans Am and includes my workshop). When I return from a trip, whichever rig I took is going to be dirty. I like to leave it that way for a few days. Lets my neighbors (many of whom will stop by and ask about my latest trip) know I just returned from yet another good time. And I love parading it around town for those drivers of shiny, never dirty, mall crawling pickup trucks to see. But I do like to keep my rigs clean. However, unless it's really dirty, that simply means taking a bucket of plain water and a rag, and wiping down the rig. And a little glass cleaner to polish up the windows. I don't worry about the shininess of the paint finish. I don't ever wax. Both my rigs (yes, even the 2020 Gladiator) see their share of trail rash, and will see much more.
I wash mine after a wheeling trip, not really outside of that. I do spend a lot of time making sure all the mud is out of it and things are squeaky clean when I do wash it. Maybe once over a summer I'll give it a wash as well, but that's after I've washed all the other vehicles. It's very time consuming and, even with the Jeep, I'll only hand wash.
I'm convinced the folks that designed the interior of the jeep never had to clean one..........too dang many nooks and crannies that collect dust, dirt, mud, debris, cookie crumbs......etc.....
Along the same subject without starting a new thread, what is the best way to clean my dirty ol' fingerprints off the inside of the hard top, the white inside shows how dirty my digits are when I take the top or panels off
