What does JK, YJ, etc. even stand for???
What does JK, YJ, etc. even stand for??? That may be a really stupid question but can someone answer it for me? Thanks in advance.

I know that CJ originally stood for "civilian jeep". I think that set the precedent for a two-letter denomination, but I'm not sure what they each specifically mean... anyone know?

JK stands for nothing. Rumor has it that originally it was supposed to be something else (TK?), without the "J", and someone at Chrysler pointed out that it should have a J. So they changed it to JK.

They actually never produced a 1996 model year YJ. YJs produced in early 1996 were sold as 1995 model years, but featured a few new parts not seen on any earlier YJ. This included: the new TJ bumpstops on the hood (rubber boots vs the traditional U-bars), reinforced tailgate hinges, and it has been said that some even had rear TJ bumpers. Some lucky ones also got the newly tuned I6 that was tuned to run quieter in preparation for the TJ.
