What have we learned in 2007 about our JK's or this forum?

My 2 cents...

I enjoy all the input from this forum but we will soon realize that with our collective knowledge were wrong about somethings... about what we thought would work or what wouldn't. I don't know alot or have all the answers... thats why im here. But some people come of as experts and that they have the one and only definitive answer. Its great to see them proven wrong... for the greater good. After a year of being Guinea Pig's we still have a long way to go. Too many un-answered questions... i guess wear and tear and time will tell!!! How long will the stock driveshafts last with the 3" lift or less rule?... How big will Project-JK get?...ETC...

What say you?

That very few people know how to calculate MPG, know what affects it (tire size changes, gear changes, etc.) and how the built in calulator operates.

I've got 37" tires 4.88 gears and my display shows 20MPG... yeah I laugh at that too.

Things I've learned

Interior plastic is crap

Motor on the highway is a joke

A new diesel or 4.0 in 09 possiblility

These things look awesome with the top off

I learned that it would be a waste of money to get the computer display on my dash cause it's useless.

Talking

I've started learning the components and their relationships to each other, and to performance gains. A lot is simply applying analogous engineering principles to the new set-up, combined with accounting for the compromises made to achieve a tight turning radius with a long wheel base, wider tracked, rig.

Most of the tire/rim fitment issues seem to stem from the compromises the engineers made to maintain a tighter radius despite the track and wheelbase increases.

The rest is standard truck knowledge.

The remainder of my learning will be the specifics of the relationships, with real numbers substituted for proportions and anecdotal examples.

Hopefully, shortly after actually HAVING the JK, I will be able to flesh out a lot of the missing data.

Once I have a full understanding of all of the parts and their clearances, limiting factors, etc...I can design the modifications as needed to overcome the limitations of concern.

We learned that a 10 minute ogle is as healthy as half-an-hour at the gym.

I totally agree with you. In addition I learned a lot about front end alignment (not all from here) and I learned that the Unlimited JK has brought with it a new breed of Jeep owner, not bad, just different than the past. I also learned that I thought the computer stuff in the 07 was bad, then the 08 came out.

I've learned several things...

1. We all have our opinions, and they don't have to be the same.

2. The people that portray themselves as experts don't know everything.

3. I know next to nothing about the mechanics of my JK...but I'm learning.

4. Some people spend entirely too much time on this forum and need to get a life.

5. Regardless of the above points, I appreciate each and every one of you and your unique perspectives on jeeping, JKs, and life in general.

6. My JK is probably the most fun vehicle I've ever owned (well, except for my motorcycles!)!

Happy Holidays to all, and keep on Jeepin'!!!
