Just read this in JP mag, shouldn't it be the wrangler?

The new grand Cherokee is the basis on which we'll try to rebuild the jeep brand on a global scale. It is the symbol of jeep.

Yeah, it should be the wrangler. But...

They are going for the bigger market. Can't blame them for that.

Maybe what he means by that is that since the "new" Grand Cherokee is a completely new design, is that the other Jeep models will follow in that path once there is a completely "new" design due for the other models.

The 2011 Wrangler was not a "new" design other than a few interior changes and a painted hard top.

I do like the interior of the new Grand Cherokee.......it doesn't look so cheap anymore. Chrysler was completely turning me off to their vehicles on how "plastic" the interior looked.

My wife really wanted to buy a new Grand Cherokee due to the much nicer styling, until she saw the 13MPG City, 15MPG highway gas mileage.

.

That is exactly what he meant - the new quality and technology standards will permeate all future models.

2011 was a refresh - 2012 is a major retool and modification year - stay tuned...

For the Wrangler? I'd doubt that is likely. I don't see Jeep/Chrysler revising the Wrangler's interior so thoroughly for the '11 model year just to completely redesign the whole vehicle one model year later. I suspect the JK will live on as it is in '11 with new engine options and tranny options next year. I'll bet the rest of the vehicle remains as it is for '11 (with updated power train) until the next major redesign which would probably be 3 or 4 model years down the road.

In addition to powertrain (which is a big deal), there are more interior updates on the way, and also some significant aerodynamic tweaks, such as redesigned hinges, and may get a whole new windshield design (still folding). I think we may get a Jeep that looks like a wrangler, with all the hardware and design cues, but just "sleeker"

For '12? Is this a whole new vehicle or just some exterior tweeks?

Not entirely new from ground up but as jeep has stated a "major intervention" and production line retool, both for the new powertrain options and supposedly exterior sheetmetal aerodynamic modifications.

I hope it doesn't look too sleek, that would take away from the military look IMO, but I can certainly see it happening based on Jeeps concepts in the past.

Hmmmmmm, I was plannin' on buying a new JK for '12 to get the new powertrain. But I'm just a tad afraid of an exterior re-do at this point. I have a feeling the next Wrangler may be a bit too far from its roots for me. I may end up going with an '11 then with the 3.8. I wouldn't ever buy a 4 door and the 3.8 has pretty good power for the lighter weight 2 DR. I'll just have to watch and see over the next six months to see if there is an idea where such a change might go and base my purchase decision on what gets revealed.

I'd hate to see Euro bumpers, hidden hinges, etc, etc. I think the new interior is fine when it's not too loaded up with unnecessary trim and accessories.....the '11 is looking pretty good to me now.

Thanks!!!
