What tools do I need to remove my hard top?

It is finally looking lie spring is coming and I want to get my hard top off. I am not sure what tools I will need to get it off. Can someone please fill me in on what I will need?

A #40 Torx head driver. Remove front panels, remove two torx screws at top of "B" pillars, remove the 6 holding the top to the inside of the cargo area. Lift carefully with help!

There are various size Torx screws/nuts used on the JK. I use three different sizes to remove the doors/hard top and install the mirror. Other sizes are used in other places. Just buy a set of Torx bits and you should be okay. The Craftsman 7 bit set, 34449, should cover your needs. It's $40, but they frequently have it on sale for $20 to Craftsman Club members (no charge to join).

BTW: Once I removed the nuts holding the doors on, I left them in the glove box. You could conceivably borrow this tool from a friend and not need it again. Don't try that with the hardtop screws, however. LOL.

Go to ebay and buy those bolts with wings and you don't need a tool. I think cooltec is the sellers name.

Don't forget to unplug the rear wpier and plug.....

May I also suggest you try reading your owners manual. It tells you exactly which size you need for the top and which size for the doors. It also shows diagrams where all the bolts are located. In fact I think it gives step by step instructions. Personally I keep a stubby and bits in that nice bag that the owners manual came in. I also use it to store the bolts and door nuts which I never replaced.
BTW just in case you ever get this far the windshield bolts are the same as the hardtop. It is so simple and easy to get, store, and use the stubby and bits I would not bother with those wing nut bolts because the same bits do other things on the jeep and you have to get them anyway to do it the first time.
