How can i tell if the clutch is toast? what if i put it into gear in 4lo and start without the clutch? if it drives, does that mean the clutch is still good, and its just the slave cylinder?

Thanks

100% poitive its the slave cylinder. same thing happened to me. Was perfect on my way to work then after work it was really loose just easly went down and poped back up. had to get towed to the shop and ended up being 120 to fix

Definitely the slave cylinder. Like justbandit55, I went to work one day without a problem, but the clutch was gone by the time I tried to go home. Mine was still under warranty, so I just had it towed to the dealership.

I did mine in 4 lo as well, but when the arm popped out it actually locked the clutch to the flywheel, so it you unseat the slave and then try to move it in 4 lo it should work. Technically speaking.

it rolled around fine in 4lo, so i put it on the tow truck that way. off to the dealer for a seemingly inexpensive fix. like 300 i think

Bump, I think my slave Cylynder crapped the bed with 31,714 miles on the jeep. Had it warranty towed to the dealer?
Is this going to be covered under warranty?

Most of the time clutch and related components..ie. slave cylinder in this case probably won't be covered because it is considered a normal wear item.
You can put the Jeep in first and start it..if it lurches forward your slave is bad, for diagnosis but if its already been towed then that doesn't matter much.
depending on what the dealer quotes you at, they are around 80 bucks and not hard to replace if your handy.

I did put the it in first gear and start it and it did start to go forward. I'm hoping it's just that slave. Well see.
