Where are the JKs outside of the US?
Does anybody have any information on what countries are getting JKs and how many? I have done a fair amount of internet searching and can come up with general information that Jeep is selling a lot of JKs overseas but no details on how many or where. Where are all of the CRD versions as well as regular gas models?
Have them here in Italy,.
How many? Don't know, only thing I know for sure is that it was PIA to get mine.
Until now I saw only 2 other Unlimiteds (a grey Sahara and a Black Rubicon) and one Black 2 door Shara.
Keep in mind that the european market for Wranglers wasn't really big until now. You'll se a lot of SUVs and very few real OR vehicles.
In Italy there are a lot of Suzuki Jimnys due to the tight spaces.
Wranglers always had 2 problems on the mrket here:
First one the engine: For our standards horribly thirsty and terribly low HP for the displacement and amount of gas it wants (this is true for ALL US engines)
Second the comfort: A Wrangler is love or hate. Personally I happily sacrifice leather , chrome, HIFI and other stuff in favour of versatility.
But most people want a car: Silent, cozy and round (if not sporty) lines. Moreover most SUVs are bought as a status symbol:
In the winter roads are plowed and salted and are clean 98% of the time, no desert or other place a family would need a real OffRoader to get there for a Picnic. Usually streets are narrow in the cities, parking space is at a premium and driving around in the city with a Range Rover, Touareg or Cayenne is just plain stupid.
In winter I can warrant you that you better get a permanent 4x4. They handle MUCH easier on our winter streets (but also less fun). Hardly ever you get so much snow on the road that an Audi couldn't make it.
So real Off-Roaders are mostly limited to hunters who need them and small groups of Off-Road enthusiasts.
It may change now that the Wrangler has a Diesel engine, in Europe you have to be NUTS to get a gas guzzling 4 liter vehicle!
Don't know 'bout gas (driving Diesel for 20 years now) but Diesel is already 1.33 Euro per liter here (translates to 7.54 USD per Gallon with todays exchange rate)

Same thing here in Belgium. Getting a wrangler is a thing of patience...
When i started looking for a new vehicle i was thinking of a land rover defender or a Jeep wrangler unlimited. So i went to two dealers and asked for a test ride and the decision was quickly made : THE WRANGLER.....BUT...
the dealer here in Geraardsbergen told me i had to wait 14 MONTHS......
another dealer in Brussels told me the delivery time was 8 MONTHS...
so i started a search and found a dealer near Gent who had a few wranglers in a sort of Pre-order ( very unusual here in Belgium ) and the time of delivery was exspected for the end of April 2008. I ordered mid oktober so it will be six and a half months for the Black sahara unlimited 2.8 CRD ...
The countdown goes on and now is 74 days , 11 hours and 14 minutes...
i hope....
Here i already saw 3 JK s on the road and a few demo cars from the dealer , but the car is not very popular i think. For us it is also the second car ( we drive a BMW X5) and she is meant for taking our dogs to the woods and for fun in the weekend. I don' t think many Belgian people will buy the wrangler as their only car.

Here in Greece wranglers are quite popular i live in Rhodes Island and there are plenty of wranglers not jk though. I have seen only 5 or 6. i believe this is because the car costs too much. I have a 2.8 crd soft top and i payed 39.600 Euro!! thats a lot of Us dollars and this is the standar price no less for a new jk.
So i think people will prefer an Bmw X3 which costs the same money, maybe less. Another thing is the long delivery time. Mine was 10 months, but i found a dealer in another place that had one pre ordered and bought it right away

I was extremely shocked at the Vehicle taxes you European's pay and on top of that the high fuel prices....ouch!!!!
While in Denmark I saw a 06 Dodge Magnum R/T on the lot and was curious what it was worth....... 1.2 million Kroners worked out to $300,000 CDN
I can't imagine what a JK would sell for in Denmark....
Thanks for the info everyone. Sounds like it is probably best to concentrate on selling in the US market for now. People can always order Tuffy products and we can ship anywhere. I was hoping there were some areas where they were becoming really popular.
